For the second time this year, former Hopkins basketball star Sydney Coffey has been recognized as the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week, the conference announced Monday. “Coffey continues to cement herself as one of the best rookies in the MAAC, averaging nine points and 4.5 rebounds while making her fourth career start in Marist (College’s) two dominating wins this past weekend,” the conference stated. She started Sunday against Loyola, scored 16 points and snagged four rebounds—in addition to blocking two shots and going five for six from the free throw line. After her first collegiate start and third collegiate game, former Hopkins basketball star Sydney Coffey has been named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week, Marist athletics announced Monday. The honor follows a Marist victory Saturday in which Coffey helped her team to a 56-45 win over Princeton. Coffey scored 13 points, held 2012 All-American Niveen Rasheed to 3-17 shooting and forced Rasheed into five turnovers. Coffey is the quickest player to start under Marist Head Coach Brian Giorgis, who’s in his 11th season as the team’s head coach.
