Stages Brings ‘Owl Moon’ to Hopkins Arts Center

The performance is based on the Caldecott Medal-winning book about a mystical walk in the woods in search of an owl.

  Editor’s Note: The following announcement comes from Stages Theatre Co.   Stages Theatre Company (STC) presents “Owl Moon” a unique production featuring a story completely told through movement and dance. Based on the 1988 Caldecott Medal book by Jane Yolen, this world premiere production focuses on a mystical, magical winter wonderland where a father and child take a walk in the woods hoping to spot an owl and are surprised by what they find. Dr. Seuss’ Beloved Characters Arrive at Stages Theatre Company

Seussical-Theatre for Young Audiences Opens June 29

Tootsie and Starfire aren’t the stars of Llama Llama Red Pajama, but the real-life llamas got all the attention Friday as children headed in to the Hopkins Center for the Arts to see the new Stages Theatre Co. play. Rick Carlson, owner of Carlson's Lovable Llamas, and 4-Her Cara Schmidt brought the llamas down from Waconia for the play’s opening night. Tootsie and Starfire are both less than a year old—appropriate since the Stages play tells the story of Baby Llama’s bedtime worries. When it’s time to go to sleep, Baby Llama worries about where his mother has gone and whether she’ll return. Llamas Coming to Hopkins Center for the Arts

The Hopkins Center for the Arts will be getting some unusual visitors Friday. Real llamas will be at facility’s main entrance to greet the audience for Stages Theatre Co.’s latest production, Llama Llama Red Pajama. The play—based on the popular Llama Llama series written and illustrated by Anna Dewdney—tells the story of Baby Llama’s bedtime travails. When it’s time to go to sleep, Baby Llama worries about where his mother has gone and whether she’ll return. The musical comedy features six adult actors portraying different mama llamas and six youth actors portraying the following baby llamas with their own bedtime rituals: The show premiers at 7 p.m. Friday. Author Discusses Letting Go in 'A Silent Night for Peef'

Tom Hegg's beloved story comes to Stages on Friday.

Author Tom Hegg has had a special place in his heart for A Silent Night for Peef ever since he wrote it in 1998. The book tells the story of a stuffed bear that Santa made himself and sent to a lonely child. Santa later returns to check on his beloved bear, only to find him torn and dirty. Although Santa wants to help Peef become like new, the bear explains he’s well worn from love. Starting Friday, Hegg’s beloved children’s book will be coming to a new medium. His son, Adam Hegg, adapted it into a musical running Nov. 18 through Dec. 26 at Stages Theatre Co. Hegg—who lives in Eden Prairie with his wife, Peggy—has taught drama at the Breck School for 30 years, a drama program his playwright son attended. The author sat down with Hopkins …
