A Hopkins U.S. Bank branch robbed Dec. 5 was not included in an indictment, unsealed Thursday afternoon, against a Minneapolis man suspected of being the “Man in Black” who hit more than a dozen Twin Cities banks. Federal prosecutors charged Mark Edward Wetsch, 49, with 13 counts of armed bank robbery in connection with incidents dating back to March 9. Those charges reflect the cases that investigators, prosecutors and a grand jury all agree there is strong evidence to support, said Jeanne Cooney, director of community relations for the District of Minnesota U.S. Attorney’s Office. The men are accused of stealing items from an Edina home at gunpoint.
A Hopkins man is one of three people enjoying a stay at the Hennepin County Jail after being apprehended by Edina police on suspicion of robbery late last week. Andrew Indelicato Peterson, 20, of Hopkins, Alkwan Kwame Lawson-Holiday, 21, of Minneapolis, and Anthony Pierre Willie Doss, 20, of Minneapolis, were arrested after allegedly robbing a residence in the 5700 block of Wooddale Avenue at gunpoint on May 19. Molly Anderson, public information officer with the Edina Police Department, said this was not a random crime. "The victims knew the suspects in this case," Anderson said. A second suspect has been charged in connection with the robbery of a drug dealer early Thursday morning. Eric Freeman, 18, faces one count of aggravated robbery and one count of simple robbery, said Police Sgt. Michael Glassberg. The exact details of the accusations against Freeman weren’t immediately available, but Glassberg said Freeman is alleged to have been in the 17th Avenue parking lot at the time the robbery took place there. Prosecutors previously charged 20-year-old Joemel Devon Robinson with the same offenses.
