Rep. Keith Ellison has invited Sami Rahamim, a St. Louis Park High student and the son of slain Accent Signage owner Reuven Rahamim, to join him for the president’s State of the Union address Feb. 12, Ellison announced at a gun violence forum Thursday in Minneapolis. The 5th District representative and four other Democratic U.S. representatives had earlier urged their colleagues to use the speech to step up pressure for tighter gun control laws by inviting someone hurt by gun violence to the address. Police say shooter Andrew Engeldinger, 36, pulled out the gun immediately after being terminated.
Police released a thorough timeline of events showing what happened after Andrew Engeldinger went on a shooting spree last Thursday at Accent Signage Systems, Inc. in Minneapolis. • Near the end of the workday, Engeldinger was asked to come to a meeting in the office of John Souter. A shooting Thursday at a Minneapolis neighborhood business has sent ripples throughout the Twin Cities as victims are identified. The suspect, who Minneapolis Police confirmed was released from his job earlier that day, killed himself.
UPDATE (5:51 p.m. Friday, Sept. 28) Minneaplis Police had reported earlier that Engeldinger returned to the workplace in the afternoon after being fired the morning of Sept. 27. Police now say the earlier reports were incorrect and Engeldinger was brought into the front office at the end of the work day to be terminated and then took out the weapon and began shooting in the office. ******* UPDATE (4:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 28) - Minneapolis Police and staff at Hennepin County Medical Center have confirmed a sixth victim in the shooting at Accent Signage Systems has died.
