She has worked cooperatively with the City of Hopkins and other neighboring cities. She assisted the City of Hopkins with ongoing infrastructure projects such as Shady Oak Road and SWLRT as well as working on grants for Shady Oak Beach, Little League Fields and many other projects within the City of Hopkins. Uh, if you haven't noticed, Cheryl, this post is shared on the EP and MTKA patch sites as well. And District 6 covers our areas, too. So live in your Hopkins silo of 'I got mine, so forget you" attitude if you want. Just proves why people are leaving Hopkins in droves and sending their kids to MTKA and Edina schools. Perhaps Hopkins tax payers will think a little more seriously before voting to …   more ›

Letter: 'Jan Callison Is a Respected Leader'

"By voting to re-elect Jan Callison as a Hennepin County Commissioner, we will keep in office one member of the County Board who is responsive to her constituents, not to a single party."

To the editor: Why should we bother to vote on November 6?   We've heard too many stories about dishonest politicians, unethical candidates, the unwillingness of elected officials to work across party lines to address serious issues, and about our tax dollars being wasted.  For all of those reasons, we MUST vote this year; to make sure we keep the ethical, capable people in office who have proven worthy of our trust! By voting to re-elect Jan Callison as a Hennepin County Commissioner, we will keep in office one member of the County Board who is responsive to her constituents, not to a single party.  Jan has proven as a city council member, mayor and county commissioner that she will work hard to spend our tax dollars wisely; that she will…

To submit a letter to the editor, e-mail your local Patch editor.   The Hennepin County Sheriff's Deputies Association's Political Action Committee is proud to unanimously endorse Hennepin County Commissioner Jan Callison for re-election. Over the last four years we have communicated with Commissioner Callison regarding the need to prioritize adequate public safety funding and to meet long term goals. Her commitments to courthouse security and the new 911 Communications Center demonstrate that she listened to our concerns. We have found our conversations to be meaningful and productive relative to employee labor issues. We understand the financial constraints of …

Good discussion. My second post really shows, though, a lack of balance. The property tax levy is pushed well beyond income and population growth and then debt fills in whatever outside funding doesn't. And outside funding from the feds is coming from $1 trillion plus deficits. Unstable. I'd say Hennepin County has been pedal to the metal on gathering cash levies and debt the past 10 years. Just …   more ›

Letter: Minnetonka City Council Member Endorses Jan Callison

Jan Callison is running for re-election as a Hennepin County commissioner in the sixth district.

To the Editor: This letter provides my enthusiastic endorsement of Jan Callison in her bid for re-election to the Hennepin County Commission.   Jan is an outstanding elected official.  More than that, she is an outstanding person who cares deeply about the people that she represents and the many issues that she confronts as a county commissioner.  Jan is an excellent steward of the public trust.  She is fiscally prudent and she constantly strives to deliver high value services at reasonable cost to her constituents. I had the opportunity to get to know Jan when I served with her on the Minnetonka City Council.  It was there that I came to know Jan's intellect, her work ethic, her integrity and her absolute commitment to do what is right.  …

Calliston is indeed a nice lady, however her record proves she is a big government spender. That's not what Hennepin county needs! Vote Wahlstedt to keep property taxes low and necessary services available to those who need them.   more ›
