Hopkins Landfill Project Continuing Smoothly
The project is being undertaken because of the close proximity to a number of homes.
Editor’s Note: The following announcement comes from the City of Hopkins. The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) has undertaken a project to move and compact the waste in the Hopkins Landfill due to the potential of methane gas migration and the close proximity of a large number of homes. Veit Construction has completed about one third of the waste relocation on the site — about 150,000 Cubic Yards. While there have been some dust, odor and litter issues since the project started, the contractor is working to minimize these. The MPCA realized that that there was no way to completely avoid odor problems which is why the project was scheduled for the fall and winter.
