He’s listed as questionable on the team’s injury report.
Former Hopkins standout wide receiver and University of Minnesota freshman Andre McDonald has been hospitalized with a heart problem, the Minnesota Daily reported Thursday. McDonald told the University of Minnesota student newspaper that he had a “little problem with my heart.” He was due for testing Thursday and is listed as questionable on the team’s injury report. McDonald was the top-ranked prospect in Minnesota during his senior year. He was one of two wide receivers in the state named to the AP All-State First Team and played in the prestigious Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl—an event for many of the top high school gridiron standouts. The Royals play Houston-area Episcopal High School on Aug. 25.
Hopkins football is kicking off the season Aug. 25 with a unique match against an out-of-state team. The Royals will play a “week zero” game against Episcopal High School—a team from Bellaire, TX, near Houston. It’ll be a tough test for the Royals, who finished the 2011 season with a 3-5 record. The Houston chronicle praised Knights quarterback Austin Robinson, who’s had interest from Baylor, TCU, Texas A&M and Texas Tech. Hopkins is one of three Lake Conference schools to play a week zero game this year. Most schools begin the 2012 season Aug. 31. The Hopkins game takes place at 1 p.m. Aug. 25 at Hopkins High School.
