Hopkins Man Cuffed Near Lake Minnetonka Faces Felony Drug Charge

Court documents say a phone seized during Romeo Eady's arrest contained several text messages “setting up narcotics transactions.” In all, police confiscated just under two ounces of marijuana and $700.

A 21-year-old Hopkins man has been charged with a felony-level controlled substance crime after being arrested by South Lake Minnetonka Police in Shorewood last week. The criminal complaint filed against Romeo Deville Eady, signed by South Lake Minnetonka Police Department Sergeant Stephen Neururer, indicates Eady’s vehicle was stopped Jan. 26 after officers saw him driving near the Holiday station on Hwy. 7. Aware Eady had a revoked license and numerous unpaid fines for driving after revocation, officers approached Eady’s vehicle and reported smelling a strong marijuana odor. Eady was placed in the back of a squad car, and a search of his vehicle revealed a digital scale and cell phone. Police say they found a bag of marijuana lying on …

Police: Drunken Caretaker Accosted Wheelchair-Bound Woman in His Care

Onesmus Bogonko Daniel is accused of yelling profanities at the 64-year-old woman.

A live-in caretaker faces an assault charge after the wheelchair-bound woman he cares for accused him of drunkenly yelling at her and breaking two phones when she tried to call 911. Officers went to the Meadow Creek Condos unit at 10:40 p.m. Thursday following a report of a possible domestic assault, Detective Raymond Laudenbach wrote in charging documents released Tuesday. Andrea Lynn Benolkin, 64, answered the door while sitting in a wheelchair, and officers found 27-year-old Onesmus Bogonko Daniel hiding behind a wall. Benolkin told police that Daniel is her 24-hour primary care assistant and lives with her, according to the court documents. Hopkins Police Find Crack Cocaine During Traffic Stop

Police originally stopped Marshall Borom's car because it had a broken taillight.

A Golden Valley man has been charged with possession of crack cocaine after Hopkins police stopped him for driving with a broken taillight. Marshall Borom, 57, is charged with fifth-degree drug possession, a felony with a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine. The charge has a mandatory minimum penalty of a $3,000 fine. Hopkins police were on patrol near Lake Street Northeast and Blake Road North just before 8 p.m. Nov. 20 when they spotted a car with a broken taillight, according to the criminal complaint, signed by Hopkins Police Sgt. Michael Glassberg. Officers stopped the car and identified the driver as Borom. They spotted what appeared to be a crack pipe in Borom’s shirt pocket and asked him to step out of the …

Oakdale Police Arrest Missing Hopkins Check Forgery Suspect

Edward David Stahlmann faces forgery-related charges in a handful of jurisdictions.

A man who was wanted for allegedly giving a fake check to a Hopkins landlord is in jail after Oakdale police arrested him on suspicion of another check forgery scheme. Officers in the east metro community arrested 30-year-old Edward David Stahlmann at about 1 p.m. Tuesday, said Oakdale Community Affairs Officer Michelle Stark. He was transferred to the Hennepin County jail Wednesday night, where he is being held on $40,000 bond. The Oakdale officers arrested Stahlmann in connection with an incident in Maplewood, Stark said. Investigators have forwarded a case to the Ramsey County Attorney’s Office for possible prosecution of offering a forged check. A case has also been forwarded to the Washington County Attorney’s Office for consideration…

Hopkins Officers Find Crack Cocaine After Traffic Stop

Jimmie Lee Bownes has been charged with third-degree drug possession and fifth-degree drug possession.

An unspecified traffic violation led to a drug bust and two felony charges against a Hopkins man, according to court documents filed Friday. An officer stopped 40-year-old Jimmie Lee Bownes at 8:54 p.m. Dec. 14 at the intersection of 11th Avenue and Mainstreet, Officer Kevin Frederick wrote in the charging documents. While talking with Bownes, the officer smelled marijuana. Bownes admitted smoking marijuana before driving and gave officers permission to search him, saying he didn’t have any more. Officers found a container with 30 Lorazepam pills on Bownes. He said he had a prescription for the anti-anxiety medicine, but subsequent investigation showed that he didn’t have a prescription.
