The following public safety summary of information from the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office Patrol Unit that includes highlights from Feb. 19-24, 2013. In addition to the law enforcement services it provides throughout the county, the HCSO provides primary patrol services for the communities of Hassan Township, Greenfield, Medicine Lake and Fort Snelling, as well as the Hennepin County portions of Hanover and Rockford. Dayton Rockford Greenfield Medicine Lake Hanover The Hennepin County Sheriff's Office patrol deputies also issued five citations.
The Hennepin County Sheriff's Office is adding orange fencing around "Thin Ice" signs in an attempt to draw more attention to them.
Editor's Note: The following is a Hennepin County Sheriff's Office release. The Hennepin County Sheriff's Office continues to warn motorists to stay off of thin ice. Our Special Deputy volunteers are providing safety information to people using Lake Minnetonka and many other lakes throughout the county. It is especially important to avoid channels and pressure ridges on Lake Minnetonka because those areas have thin ice even in the coldest of Minnesota winters. The Sheriff's Office is placing orange snow fencing around "thin ice" signs in order to provide greater visibility to these signs. It is the responsibility of motorists to respond appropriately to these warning signs and to make safe choices when they are behind the wheel.

Hennepin County Sheriff Rich Stanek is advising motorists to have a game plan for a sober ride for Super Bowl festivities. Super Bowl parties often start early and run late, so designate a sober driver in advance of kick-off. “We know how to prevent alcohol-related crashes,” said Hennepin County Sheriff Rich Stanek, “Take the time to make a plan and stick to it on game day.” Each year in Minnesota, alcohol-related crashes account for up to 200 traffic deaths and more than 35,000 motorists are arrested for DWI.
