The Hopkins man allegedly tried to barricade a Menard’s security door with a lumber cart before fleeing.
A Hopkins man is facing one count of aggregated theft, a felony, after allegedly blocking the security office door at the Golden Valley Menards and fleeing the store with a cart full of high-end bathroom merchandise. On Jan. 25 at about 5:30 p.m., Golden Valley police were called to Menards for reports of theft. According to a complaint filed in Hennepin County District Court, a shopper saw another man, later identified as Dana Hitchings, 42, of Hopkins, remove “high-end faucets and bath equipment from the store’s shelves” and place them in his cart. Warning motorists to "Get sober or get pulled over," area police mounted a campaign against drunk drivers during December. Their efforts, according to the Minneapolis Police Department, netted 104 arrests. Thousands of Twin Cities residents drive to and from area bars every weekend. “DWI patrols are effective to reducing drunk driving activity, but it is clear that the issue remains a real problem that puts our roads in danger,” Minneapolis police Sgt. Rich Lee said in a written statement. Police promised "enhanced" DWI patrols through the end of 2013. The 58-year-old Altadena, CA, woman died of multiple gunshot wounds.
The woman a Golden Valley police officer shot and killed on I-394 on Thursday has been identified. Katherine Marie Gordon, 58, of Altadena, CA, died of multiple gunshot wounds, according to a spokeswoman from the Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office. The manner of death is listed as homicide. The officer tried to stop a woman in a vehicle on I-394 near Highway 169, according to a statement from Stacy Carlson, Golden Valley police chief. The driver pulled the car to the side of 394 near the Hopkins Crossroad. "The lone occupant of the vehicle, an adult female, was in possession of a handgun and was subsequently fatally shot by the officer," Carlson's statement said. We will NEVER know the truth! Hopefully this will be a great example of why NOT to carry a gun! Odd are 200,000 – 1 you would ever get carjacked (or shot by a police officer). If a car jacker came up to your car and saw you reach for your gun……..guess who shoots first. I don’t carry as it only leads to trouble.
