Tails are once again wagging at Helping Paws following another strong performance on Give to the Max Day. The organization had 423 people donate $62,187—a total that made it 18th overall, the highest-earning Hopkins nonprofit. It also won a $1,000 bonus for earning fourth place on the leaderboard for medium nonprofits, which have revenue between $100,000 and $1 million. Its 2012 total is 45 percent greater than the $42,973 it raised in 2011, when it ranked 27th in the state. Helping Paws was followed by Main Street School of Performing Arts and Hopkins Education Foundation—which raised $9,610 and $7,418, respectively. This week, thousands of Minnesota nonprofits will ask supporters to maximize their charitable dollars by donating during GiveMN.org’s Give to the Max Day. The Nov. 15 event offers incentives to inspire nonprofit and donor participation. Every hour, one nonprofit donor and one K-12 public schools donor will be randomly chosen to win “golden tickets that add $1,000 to their donation. A nonprofit and K-12 donor will also be selected randomly from the 24 hour-period to have $10,000 added to their donation. Prizes are also available for the top-earning nonprofits—with $12,500 for first place, $5,000 for second place and $2,500 for third place. Helping Paws of Minnesota led the way among Hopkins nonprofits in Give to the Max Day fundraising, according to GiveMN.org. The $42,973 the organization raised ranked it 27th in the state, excluding higher education institutions, for the amount of money raised. The organization provides service dogs to people with physical disabilities—such as spinal cord injuries, multiple sclerosis, muscular dystrophy or Lou Gehrig's disease. The dogs help their owners with the daily tasks of life. Specific Helping Paws programs also benefitted from the annual statewide fundraising drive. The Alpha/Gator Fund, which helps pay for veterinary costs and other service dog essentials, raised $2,036 through 13 donors. Four donors also donated $200 to sponsor …
