He released the following statement: The threat of cyber-attack is real. As we have seen repeatedly, both public and private networks are under constant threat, and Congress has a responsibility to address these threats. However, CISPA in its current form would violate Americans…

The 5th District congressman didn’t agree with the cuts in the sequester.
Fifth District Rep. Keith Ellison protested the sequester cuts by voting against the continuing resolution that the House passed Thursday. The act funds the government for the next six months and keeps the government from shutting down later this month. The House passed the act on a 318-109 vote. The Senate passed it Wednesday. Following Thursday’s passage in the House, Ellison issued the following statement: “While I believe Congress has a basic responsibility to keep the government running, I voted against this bill to protest the deep cuts to everything from education funding to medical research known as the ‘sequester.’ The Sequester does nothing to improve the continuing jobs crisis in Minnesota and the country. Today’s legislation …

Editor's Note: The following was submitted by Richfield resident Donna Connelly. STOP TREADING ON MY CONGRESSMAN, FOX NEWS by D.G. Connelly If anyone should be blamed for that contentious televised interview between Keith Ellison and Sean Hannity that aired last week (on Tuesday, Feb., 26th), it’s me -- Minnesota resident and voter in District #5. Blame me, not my Congressman. For the past five years, I’ve been phoning his office and complaining about that oxymoron that is Fox News. I’ve been leaving him messages like, “We ought to bring back the Fairness Doctrine.” And, “Somebody should do something about Fox News because it’s not a real news network. It’s just 24/7 Republican propaganda. “Well, now Rep. Ellison has done something: he has…

The 5th District representative liked the speech’s comments on income equality, gay rights and other issues.
Fifth District Rep. Keith Ellison is praising the progressive values he heard in President Barack Obama’s second inaugural address. “As the co-chair of the Progressive Caucus, it is my considered opinion that this was a progressive speech,” Ellison said Monday on The Ed Show. “It was a speech that any progressive could say, ‘That’s what I’m talking about.’ I found myself spontaneously cheering in the middle of the speech. It was the kind of speech that just made me feel really good because it combined our common humanity, combined our need for economic fairness, combined the idea that better days our coming if we will step up to meet them.” Ellison particularly noted the president’s focus on income inequality, programs like Social …

The Twin Cities publication had kind words for both candidates, but ultimately said Ellison was a better fit for the job.
The Star Tribune believes Keith Ellison (DFL) would best serve Minnesota's 5th Congressional District, according to an editorial penned Sunday. While the publication ultimately endorsed Ellison over Chris Fields (R), the editorial does praise the Republican newcomer as "impressive." "[Fields] needs to invest more time in the community before he's ready for Congress," the editorial reads. The endorsement does mention the volatile KFAI debate between the two candidates, admitting Ellison "failed to meet his own standards of decorum" in calling Fields a "lowlife scumbag." That said, the Strib argues the meltdown was out of character for Ellison—who apologized for the outburst—and that voters should "give Ellison a pass this time and send him …
