‘Capturing Narratives’ Exhibition Kicks Off Dec. 6

The show features pastels by Roxanne Richards.

  Editor’s Notebook: The following announcement comes from the Hopkins Center for the Arts.   Roxanne Richards says, “Life is full of stories. The stories in my work document my journey to understand what I see, feel and experience…I attempt to capture all my questions, foibles and adventures in the same colorful and energetic way I feel them.” Richards finds dry pastel the perfect medium to explore her questions and record her adventures with color and energy. Being almost pure pigment, dry pastel provides the depth and range of hue she seeks. Being in stick form, pastel lets her depict energy through expressively drawn lines. Adding a little isopropyl alcohol to the pastel creates a paint to be applied with a brush. She uses both …

Members’ Juried Exhibition Returns to Arts Center

The Members’ Juried Exhibition runs Sept. 20 to Oct. 20, with a free public opening reception from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sept. 22.   The Members’ Juried Exhibition is always interesting at the Hopkins Center for the Arts.  The membership looks forward to this competitive annual exhibition. “We are fortunate to have a highly talented group of artist members,” said Amanda Birnstengel, Center Director.  “While it makes the selection process tough for the jurors, it ensures an exhibition with a high level of artistic vision and skilled execution. ‘The Critics’ Show’ Introduces Underexposed Artists to Community

The show runs April 19 through May 20 at the Hopkins Center for the Arts.

  (The following news release comes from the Hopkins Center for the Arts. The exhibition runs April 19 through May 20. Gallery hours are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. through 8 p.m. Saturday and noon through 5 p.m. Sunday. The opening reception is 6 to 8 p.m. April 26, with a panel discussion at 7 p.m.)   What makes art compelling and who are some artists to watch over the next couple years? This is a question that “The Critics’ Show” strives to answer.  Four critics, who are all local arts scene notables and practicing artists themselves-- Sean Smuda, Dan Noyes, Stephanie Xenos, and Andy DuCett, were asked to select artists who they felt are underexposed in the region and deserving of greater attention.  The resulting …
