Blood Leads Police to Truck Theft Suspect

Erich Jacob Beck, of Minneapolis, has been charged with receiving stolen property.

Blood on a steering column led police to the suspect in an August car theft, according to court documents released Tuesday. A man told Hopkins police Aug. 5 that someone stole his 1987 Chevrolet K10 sometime in the past day, Detective Renee Meuwissen wrote in the criminal complaint. On Aug. 13, Minneapolis police recovered the vehicle at 3425 Bryant Ave. with a punched steering column. On the column, they found “a blood-like substance” and entered the DNA profile into an electronic database. On Oct. 31, investigators learned the DNA matched the profile of 40-year-old Erich Jacob Beck, of Minneapolis.  Beck has been charged with receiving stolen property—a felony that carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine. …

Man Suspected of Fourth DWI in Four Years

Erich Jacob Beck faces a felony charge of first-degree driving while impaired.

Hopkins police arrested a Minneapolis man on suspicion of his fourth drunken driving offense in about four years. Officers stopped 40-year-old Erich Jacob Beck on the 1200 block of Cambridge Street on Tuesday, Detective Renee Meuwissen wrote in the criminal complaint. They arrested him after noticing that his speech was slurred, he was unsteady on his feet and there was an odor of alcohol. A breath test at the department showed Beck had a blood alcohol content of .17 percent—just over twice the legal limit of .08 percent. Beck was previously convicted of refusal to take a breath test in October 2008, July 2010 and April 2012, according to court records. Man in Jail After Breaking Protection Order in Front of Police

When officers served Erich Jacob Beck with the protection order, he reportedly picked up his phone and called his girlfriend right away.

Say what you will about this guy, no one can accuse him of being sneaky. Erich Jacob Beck, 40, of Minneapolis, is in Hennepin County jail after making a call to his girlfriend in front of officers right after they served him with an order for protection. Police served Beck with the protection order Tuesday and told him that he was not to have any contact with his girlfriend, Officer Stacy Lakotas wrote in the charging documents. Beck responded with, “I’m going to call her right now.” Officers told him to stop and warned him that would be a direct violation of the protection order. However, he picked up his phone and called her anyway, according to the court documents. Police checked the woman’s phone and confirmed that it had a missed call…
