'Holiday Sip & Shop' — Raising Money for a Good Cause

An estimated 400 people turned out Tuesday night at Edina's Pinstripes for the second annual fundraiser for GiGi's Playhouse, a Down Syndrome Awareness Center slated to open in St. Louis Park in 2013. More than 30 local vendors offered everything from food samples to fashion consults during the three-hour event designed to raise awareness of the children with Down Syndrome. The above photos are from those who attended Tuesday night. And though the fundraiser may be over, the organization is still accepting donations for the center. Holiday Sip & Shop: Putting the 'Fun' in Fundraiser

More than 30 vendors will be at Pinstripes in Edina Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. to host an open house and raise awareness and money for GiGi's Playhouse, a Down Syndrome Awareness Center slated to open in 2013.

It's a party, yes—but for a good cause. More than 30 vendors will be at Pinstripes in Edina Tuesday, Nov. 27, from 5-8 p.m. as a fundraiser and to raise awareness for GiGi's Playhouse, a Down Syndrome Awareness Center slated to open in St. Louis Park in 2013. It's the second year for the event, which will feature gifts, wine, coffee, hot chocolate, as well as hors d'ouvres for guests. A donation of $10 is asked for those who attend. Edina Patch, which is a partner for the event, will also be on hand giving away canvas shopping totes to those who attend. Vendors scheduled include: Anna Belago Designs; Winter Goddess/Black Onyx Creation; Best Buy Simplicity Program; Beyond Beauty Aesthetic Clinic; Blast Dry Bar; Bumblebee Personal Assistants…

Cody’s Dash for Down Syndrome Raises $22K

More than 400 people attended the event.

Cody’s Dash for Down syndrome brought in thousands of dollars for advocacy efforts, according to numbers organizers released Tuesday. The May 19 event in Burnes Park raised more than $22,000 for GiGi’s Playhouse, an organization whose mission is to increase positive awareness of Down syndrome. In all, more than 400 people attended, including 204 people who participated in the 5K run and walk.   Stay up to date on all your local news. Hopkins Friends Host ‘Dash for Down Syndrome’

The four women organized the 5K run/walk after one of them had a son with Down syndrome.

Brie Heinlein, Amy Jackson, Andrea Johnston and Liz Meyer have been best friends since they were students in Hopkins High School together. So when Jackson’s son, Cody, was born in February 2011 with Down syndrome, her three friends were there to offer her all the support she needed. “Not knowing ahead of time, it was obviously a really big shock for them,” Meyer said. A few months later, Johnston and Meyer were discussing how to help Jackson while on a plane returning from a girls weekend. All the friends except Heinlein are runners, and Jackson and Johnston ran cross country in high school.
