Fifth District Rep. Keith Ellison’s received conspicuous praise following his debate on targeting religious groups with Rep. Peter King, a Republican congressman from New York who advocates for increase surveillance of the Muslim community. Salon's Editor at Large Joan Walsh wrote an article for Salon and MinnPost called “The Importance of Keith Ellison” in which she argued for the importance of having Muslims like Ellison in Congress. With another legislative session just around the corner, senators and representatives have no shortage of challenges ahead of them. Lawmakers plan to convene hearings on gun control in the wake of the school shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, CT. They’ll review a recommendation from a governor-appointed task force to increase gas taxes and tab fees in response to a projected $50 billion shortfall in transportation funding. The DFL majority and defeat of the marriage amendment in the 2012 election could even prompt the Legislature to take up the issue of gay marriage. Barack Obama and Mitt Romney duked it out tonight in their first presidential debate in Denver, Colorado. Jimmy, above, You said, "Anyone supporting Ellison...must go." Do you mean must be liquidated or thrown out odf this country, perhaps into the ocean without a boat? What exactly would you do to the fellow Americans that you disagree with? I do not necessarily agree with the article, either.   more ›
