The already twisty journey of the Boston Garden site took another turn in March when co-owner Felix Kerawala sold the property to Sam Stiele instead of the originally announced pizzeria. The property initially appeared on track to be a Mediterranean restaurant after Twin Cities chef Bill Ansari announced plans to open a business there in December. However, Kerawala quickly shot down that announcement—and announced in January that the restaurant would close Jan. 31 and be leased to three former owners of a Bloomington restaurant who planned to turn the space into a pizzeria. Owners of a former Bloomington restaurant will start renovations soon afterward and open a new pizzeria in the spring.
After 30 years serving Mainstreet customers, Boston Garden will be closing its doors for good next week, co-owner Felix Kerawala announced Thursday afternoon. The restaurant will close Jan. 31 when its license expires, Kerawala said. In its place, three former owners of a Bloomington restaurant whose lease expired will be opening a pizzeria. Renovation in the Boston Garden space will start next month, and the new pizzeria should open in the spring. (Kerawala didn’t immediately have details about the owners or the new restaurant, but he will be putting Patch in touch with them. Patch will have more information afterward.) Hopkins residents should have a little bit longer to enjoy Mainstreet’s Boston Garden restaurant. Restaurant co-owner Felix Kerawala said he’s far from reaching a deal that would allow Twin Cities chef Bill Ansari to open the Mediterranean restaurant he announced Monday. Kerawala, who also owns the building where Boston Garden is located, said he and Ansari still disagree on numerous items after months of negotiating. And he wants to ensure that the terms for any new tenant in the building don’t alienate the existing tenants. “We have little differences over many, many points. Hopkins’ Mainstreet is trading in Boston for the Mediterranean. Twin Cities chef Bill Ansari plans to open Adam Basha Café: American Mediterranean Grill and Bakery at 1019 Mainstreet, the site of the former Boston Garden. The restaurant will have a rotating menu of specials from countries across the Mediterranean, plus American-themed entrees. The bakery will offer subs, donuts, bread baked fresh daily and pies—including raspberry pie in honor of Hopkins. Too bad the other mediterannean place isn't moving in. That Ansari guy is a real chef who makes great food. Hopefully the pizza place will clean up that space and actually offer good food to Hopkins. Can we get an up update on this? Also, is something moving into the old quizno's space on 8th? I asked about that over a year ago and never got a follow up.
