Curious George, Clifford and Lego Star Wars were among the top read books.
Information provided by Hennepin County Library. An additional category in 2012 — easy books (for very young children) — has more variety than some of the top 25 lists released by Hennepin County Library earlier this week. Eighteen of the top 25 titles are by different authors. The list includes “Lego Star Wars” at number one, “Curious George Goes to the Zoo” in second place, and two “Fancy Nancy” titles in third and fourth place (as well as seventh and 21st). “I Can Be a Ballerina” came in at number five and is one of two titles from this “Step Into Reading” series that made it into the top 25. 1. Lego Star Wars: The Phantom Menace by Hannah Dolan 2. Curious George Goes to the Zoo by Cynthia Platt 3. Fancy Nancy and the Mean…

For the second year in a row, one teen book topped the list.
Information provided by Hennepin County Library. Hennepin County Library has tabulated the top 25 teen titles checked out in 2012, and the list shows that Hennepin County readers are remarkably consistent in their reading interests year to year. In 2012 as in 2011, “The Hunger Games” by Suzanne Collins was the most checked-out teen book of the year. “Catching Fire” by Collins moved up from number four to number two, and her “Mockingjay” remained as the third most popular teen title of the year. Another futuristic novel, “Divergent” by Veronica Roth, and a World War II fiction, “The Book Thief” by Markus Zusak, round out the teen top five. 1. The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins 2. Little ones flock to the library’s children’s area each day.
Young ones filled the Hopkins Library’s children’s area Wednesday. In one corner, a boy “cooked” plastic vegetables on a pretend grill. In the center, two boys—one wearing a backwards fireman’s helmet—arranged magnetic gears. Throughout the space, children read books, played with letters and let their imaginations run wild. Wednesday wasn’t exceptional, though. Nearly two years after it was created, the children’s area remains a big draw. Children and their caretakers—moms, dads, grandparents, daycare providers, nannies and more—flock to the space each day for play and learning. “It’s a real magnet,” Senior Librarian Lisa Bjerken said. The children’s area got its start in July 2010 as a pilot project with the Children’s Museum. The idea …

This is the first time Hopkins West and Hopkins North junior high schools have participated together to raise money through the online book fair.
Hopkins West and Hopkins North junior high schools aren't the end of the business day put an end to their book fair. After raising money at the Ridgedale Barnes & Noble to raise money for the schools' media centers, the schools are continuing the book fair online through Thursday, at bn.com/bookfairs. The second-annual book fair featured entertainment by staff and students, free gift wrapping, a drawing for a $50.00 gift certificate and guest author Patrick Reusse signing copies of his two books.
