‘I stand with the millions of struggling homeowners in Minnesota and across the country seeking justice after unfairly being kicked out of their homes,’ the 5th District congressman said.
Rep. Keith Ellison is adding his voice to those of protestors demonstrating outside the U.S. Department of Justice in Washington, DC. The protestors—organized, in part, by Occupy Our Homes—argue that bankers haven’t been held accountable for financial misdeeds. In response to the protest, Ellison’s office released a statement Tuesday that quoted the 5th District congressman as saying: I see the devastation of the foreclosure crisis every day in towns across the Minneapolis metro area, and I stand with the millions of struggling homeowners in Minnesota and across the country seeking justice after unfairly being kicked out of their homes. Banks have paid less than half the payments they owe to homeowners since 2008, and have yet to pay a …

About this sponsorship: In honor of the 60th anniversary of Sir Edmund Hillary’s historic ascent of Mount Everest, Patch and Grape-Nuts are teaming up to highlight those who inspire people around them to climb their own mountains. Shreya Dixit could have taken the bus to her parents' home in Eden Prairie that night. That was the plan when the University of Wisconsin student woke up that morning, before she learned she would be able to catch a ride with a friend who was driving to the Twin Cities that night. When she and two other friends were getting into the car for that trip, she could have gotten into the back seat instead of the front passenger seat. The driver could have, when she realized roughly a third of the way into their …
As you give your child an extra hug, send out your thoughts to Oklahoma and share what makes the educators in your child’s life special.
Last week, I had the opportunity visit with a few children at the Excelsior Farmers Market. Not surprising, they knew the exact number of days left until summer break. While many of our kids in Minnesota are eyeing the calendar with anticipation for summer break, I was reminded this week how much we owe our educators. As parents, we send our children off to school each morning expecting another typical school day until we pick them up. It becomes a parents worst nightmare when unexpected tragedies and circumstances hit a school – situations that seem to have been all too common nationwide during the 2013-2013 school year. Yet, time and time again, we hear about educators that put their life on the line to save those students they are …
The downtown retailer is becoming an estate sale business and will also sell some jewelry and gift items at a Robbinsdale space.

The victory clinched a share of the Lake County Conference title for the Skippers, which it will share with Edina and Eden Prairie.
"Give me a chance," Minnetonka High School junior Luke "Petey" Petterson said to nobody in particular as he took a cut in the on deck circle. "I just want one chance to win this." Twenty seconds later, with the bases loaded and the game tied at one in extra innings, Petterson was in an 0-2 hole and fighting to keep his at bat alive. After fouling off two curve balls, Pederson spanked a fastball sharply into left-center field—scoring Axel Twenge from third winning and giving the Skippers the win. The victory clinched a share of the Lake County Conference title for the Skippers, which it will share with Edina and Eden Prairie. Minnetonka's regular season finale is a home game scheduled for tonight at 6:30 p..m. against Chaska. The section …
The proposed sales tax for transit improvements did not make it into the final transportation bill.
The presidents of the Minneapolis Regional Chamber and Saint Paul Area Chamber on Sunday condemned the Legislature’s inability to approve a dedicated funding source to expand Twin Cities transit. Last month, the Minneapolis and Saint Paul chambers endorsed a metrowide sales tax of up to half a cent that would have funded transit improvements. Transit tax proposals presented during the session ranged from a quarter of a cent to three-quarters of a cent. However, a sales tax for transit did not make it in to the final version of the Omnibus Transportation Finance bill. The bill did include $37 million to keep the Southwest Light Rail Transit project moving forward. But Minneapolis chamber President Todd Klingel and Saint Paul chamber …
The bill was sponsored by District 46 legislators.
The Minnesota Child Victims Act sponsored by District 46 legislators is just a signature away from becoming law. The Senate approved the conference committee report on the bill 57-0 Friday, and the House signed off on the amended bill 123-3 the same day. The act now only awaits Gov. Mark Dayton’s approval. The Minnesota State Supreme Court has interpreted existing state law to mean that the statute of limitations on civil sexual abuse lawsuits closes by the time the plaintiff turns 24 years old. The Child Victims Act would remove the statute of limitations for civil lawsuits stemming from sexual abuse going forward. Victims would also be able to sue schools, churches or any other group that they accuse of failing to protect them. Sen. Ron …

Rep. Ellison conveniently forgets that many of these people facing foreclosure lied on their applications, and bought half-million-dollar homes on $25,000 incomes. However.... The honest people who were duped have a case against the banks, who are indeed at fault as well. Most of these banks are headquartered in New York, a place full of deceiving scoundrels, who only idolize money and don't care…   more ›
