West Metro Residents Donate 65,000 Pounds of Food to 'Stamp Out Hunger'

The donations help ICA Foodshelf deal with extra demand during the summer.

Hopkins, Minnetonka and Chanhassen residents donated more than 65,000 pounds of food in a single day as part of the National Association of Letter Carriers Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive, according to a news release.

On May 14, more than 70 ICA Foodshelf volunteers worked with the letter carriers association on what has become the nation’s largest single-day food drive.

ICA has already seen demand for services at an all-time high. But food is particularly important during the summer months when children get out of school and lose their free and reduced-cost meals, ICA Executive Director Cathy Maes said in the release. The organization gives families extra food for their children each time they visit during the summer months.
