Patch Editors Volunteer at the We Can Ride Barn

Patch editors put down their laptops and picked up some pitchforks Friday in Minnetonka.

On Friday afternoon, editors from Patch towns in the West Metro put down their laptops and picked up some pitchforks to "Give 5" with We Can Ride in Minnetonka.

Give 5 is Patch's ongoing volunteer initiative and a part of Patch's mission to give back to our communities in a variety of ways throughout the year.

The group of editors helped at We Can Ride with barn chores. Yes, the chores involved poop. However, the horses who live there have an important job– they're not just pleasure ponies. They serve clients in the We Can Ride program.

We Can Ride, Inc. is a nonprofit organization whose mission is serving children and adults living with physical, cognitive, emotional and behavioral disabilities. The organization's goal is to enhance their clients' skills and well-being through challenging programs of therapeutic horseback riding. Volunteers are essential to the program, who serve as horse leaders and sidewalkers, horse care takers and much more.

We Can Ride is on the grounds of the Hennepin County Home School, a residential treatment center for juveniles ages 13 to 20 who have been committed by the court.
