Do You Know a 'Caring Youth'?

Nominations are being accepted for the 2012 Caring Youth Awards.

Do you know a young person who has made his or her community a better place?

Nominations are being accepted for the 2012 Caring Youth Awards through Feb. 3.

The Caring Youth Awards honor the contributions of teens in seventh through 12th grades who volunteer in a wide variety of organizations. The event is sponsored by the cities of Golden Valley, Hopkins and Minnetonka, the Hopkins and Minnetonka school districts, and the Glen Lake Optimists.

Winners will be recognized at an event March 15 at the .

Volunteers must meet at least one of the following criteria:

  • Live in Hopkins, Minnetonka or Golden Valley,
  • Attend school in Hopkins or Minnetonka or
  • Volunteer in Hopkins, Minnetonka or Golden Valley.

Volunteer work must be unpaid and not be a requirement for a class or co-curricular program.

Full details on how to nominate someone are included in the PDF to the right of the story, along with the nomination form. Nominations must be submitted by Feb. 3 to Caring Youth Awards, Attn: Jacque Larson, City of Minnetonka, 14600 Minnetonka Boulevard, Minnetonka, MN 55345.

Last year, more than 30 youth received Caring Youth Awards, including the following Hopkins residents:

  • Farhiya Ali for working with young patients at Children’s Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota in Minneapolis
  • Fiori Goitom for working with young patients at Children’s Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota in Minneapolis
  • Emily Herrmann for volunteering the past six years as a flutist at
  • Denzel Kla Diihbah for helping to coordinate the “” event
