National Weather Service Issues Fire Warning for Hopkins

A Red Flag warning has been issued through Tuesday evening.

The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag warning for Hopkins and much of Central Minnesota.

A Red Flag warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occuring now or will be shortly. A combination of strong winds and low relative humidity with warm temperatures can create explosive fire growth potential.

Today's forecast includes humidity as low as 20 percent and temperatures in the 80s. Winds today are moving south between 20 to 25 MPH, with stong gusts moving at 35 MPH.

There will be a brief break in the fire danger overnight as winds decrease and relative humidity increases. But dangerous conditions will resume Tuesday, when temperatures are expected to 92 degrees.

The Red Flag warning runs through 9 p.m. Tuesday night. During this time, fires are strongly discouraged as they can grow and move quickly due to the wind and low humidity.
