(VIDEO) Hopkins Art Fair Brings Opportunity for Artistic Growth

The annual Hopkins Art Fair draws a crowd for Mentoring Peace Through Art's canvases.

An early afternoon under the sun couldn't have lent itself better to the anual Hopkins Art Fair. Mainstreet filled with visitors and a pleasant summer breeze as hours passed and Mentoring Peace Through Art caught more people's eye.

"It's about kids, not wall art," the banner above our booth read, echoing co-founder of the organization Jimmy Longoria's long-lived mantra.  Large canvases covered with bright colors and intricate lines hung from the tent's poles, catching the attention of nearly every individual that passed by.  But the recognition received was due more to the children than the art.

"Come on, man, I'll help you out," artist Kate Hondlik said to an eager young boy as he came forward to add to the colorful canvas.  Kids of all ages were instantly drawn by the festive feel of the paintings and would stand by shyly for a chance to contribute.  As always, Mentoring Peace Through Art wholeheartedly welcomed the inclusion of everyone, no matter the age or experience level.

As the sun grew hotter and the day lingered, dozens of kids had stopped by to make their mark.  Eager parents stood near, watching with warmth as their child found joy in paint.  So long as no clothes were stained, all was well.
