(VIDEO) Coleman Draws Eyes as College Basketball Season Nears

The former Hopkins star began the year by winning the annual dunk contest.

Former star Joe Coleman is making news before even starting his first game with the University of Minnesota.

Coleman kicked off the year with a flash Friday when he won the university’s annual dunk contest with a slam that has all the makings of a viral video (see the video above posted by GopherAthletics).

Meanwhile, the Bleacher Report predicted in its Big Ten Basketball 2011-2012 Preview that Coleman should break into the starting rotation. UMHoops.com, a website covering University of Michigan basketball, also noted Coleman in its preview of Big Ten competition, writing:

Joe Coleman, former Gopher Dan Coleman’s younger brother, was Minnesota’s Mr. Basketball and is aggressive with great instincts and has a chance to start as a shooting guard.

Of course, this doesn't necessarily translate into a standout year for the Gophers. Bleacher Report pegs them at 10th among the 12 Big Ten teams.
