The Hopkins Royals thumped the Wayzata Trojans 85-65 in the Section 6 AAAA championship, earning a birth to the state boys basketball tournament.

The number-one ranked Hopkins Royals held the celebration to a minimum after dominating Wayzata on Tuesday night for the section championship. The boys have bigger things on their mind.

Like a three-peat.

The Royals recovered quickly, causing several Wayzata turnovers on the defensive end of the floor, which led to easy baskets. Hopkins led 40-26 at the half and never looked back.

Led by senior forward Marvin Singleton's 27 points, the Royals' inside game was too much for Wayzata. Senior forward Joe Coleman also had a big game scoring 18, while junior guard Siyani Chambers pitched in with 16 points as the Royals rolled to an 85 - 65.
