Hopkins fought back to narrow a 13 point deficit at the half but was still edged out by Oakdale’s Tartan High School during Saturday’s Breakdown Sports USA Tip Off Classic.
The Royals boys lagged 39-52 at the end of the first period. Although they outscored Tartan in the second 46-36, it wasn’t enough to clinch the victory. In the end, Tartan emerged with a close 88-85 win.
Hopkins senior Jamal Davis led the Royals with 24 points—and tied Tartan’s Kharie Kirkland for the game. Junior Jake Wright and Freshman Amir Coffey were No. 2 and 3 for the Roayls with 18 points and 14 points, respectively.
