Sports Roundup: Hopkins Girls Tennis In Section Semifinals
Third-seeded Royals to play No. 2 seed and Lake Conference rival Wayzata on Thursday; sectional individual pairings announced.
As the calendar moves into mid-October, more and more Hopkins teams are transitioning to a postseason state-of-mind. The Royals girls tennis team has advanced deep into its sectional as the boys and girls soccer squads prepare to begin their playoff runs on Thursday.
Girls Tennis
The third-seeded Hopkins girls tennis team shut out No. 6 seed Minneapolis Southwest on Tuesday to progress into the Section 6AA semifinal round.

Second-seeded Lake Conference rival Wayzata awaits Hopkins for a 9 a.m. semifinal match on Thursday at the Lifetime Fitness in Lakeville. The Trojans defeated the Royals 6-1 in September.
The 6AA championship match will take place at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Lakeville Lifetime.

Selected Hopkins team members will compete in the sectional individual tournament on Oct. 17-18. Ida Ramic and Ida Johnson will represent the team in singles play, with the duos of Natalie Ferris/Mia Rafowitz and Shelby Benkofske/Rachel Sadowsky competing in the doubles bracket.
Volleyball
The Hopkins volleyball team dropped to 9-13 overall and 0-6 in the Lake with a 3-1 loss to visiting Minnetonka on Tuesday.
Individual statistics were not made available. The Royals finished eighth at the St. Michael-Albertville Tournament last weekend, going 2-3 over Oct. 7-8.
Soccer
The Hopkins boys and girls soccer teams both open their respective Section 6AA Tournament appearances against Minneapolis Southwest on Thursday.
On the girls side, the Royals earned the No. 3 seed and will host the sixth-seeded Skippers at 7 p.m.; the tables were turned on the Hopkins boys, however, as Southwest claimed the third seed and welcomes the Skippers to Pershing Park in Minneapolis at 4 p.m.
Scores and results for the Hopkins/Breck girls swimming and diving meet scheduled for Tuesday were not reported.
