Minnetonka Defeats Hopkins in Dual Swim Meet

Both the Royals and the Skippers put in strong performances at the meet.

Minnetonka came away with the win, but the Royals kept it close in Tuesday’s dual swimming and diving meet at Hopkins.

Hopkins’ 200-yard medley relay team continued its strong performance. Kate Glover, Rae Bullinger, Molly Meland and Addie Thelen took first with a time of 1:53.40.

Those swimmers led the way for the Royals. Meland took first in the 100-yard fly (1:00.68). Glover won the 500-yard freestyle (5:26.43). And Bullinger was fastest in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:07.31).

The 400-yard varsity relay team—made up of Glover, Bullinger, Meland and Lindsey Fagerstrom—also took first, while another Royals team came in second.

But Minnetonka had its own standout relay performance. The Skippers took first and second in the 200-yard freestyle relay. Dana Rossebo, Anna Peterson, Leah Johnson and Sophie Levy won the race with a time of 1:45.20.

Minnetonka also dominated the 100-yard backstroke. Leah Anderson, Elena Rolseth and Haley Slater took first, second and third, respectively.

In addition:

  • Kate Busch won the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:00.23.
  • Isabel Wyer won the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:09.13.
  • Martha Haas won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.34.
  • Delaney Ambrosen won the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 56.08.

The Skippers also controlled the one-meter diving competition. Hannah Gosen took first with a score of 221.55, followed by Morgan Engel with a score of 217.35.

In the end, the Skippers beat the Royals 99-82.

Minnetonka’s next meet is against Edina at 5 p.m. Sept. 12 at home.  After that, the Skippers will face Wayzata at 5 p.m. Sept. 19 at the Plymouth Life Time Fitness.

Hopkins will next take on Wayzata at 5 p.m. Sept. 12 at the Plymouth Life Time Fitness and then confront Eden Prairie at home at 5 p.m. Sept. 19.
