Hopkins Tennis Begins Individual, Doubles Play Today

The Royals hold the No. 1 seed in individuals, No. 2 seed in doubles.

The Section 6AA boys tennis individual and doubles championships begin Tuesday at the University of Minnesota Baseline Tennis Center.

The event begins at 8 a.m. Tuesday and resumes with the semifinals and championship matches on Wednesday.

Hopkins senior Ryan Erickson has the top seed in the singles tournament. He’ll get a bye in the first round, then take on either Robbinsdale Armstrong’s Nathaniel Kurtzweg or Robbinsdale Cooper’s Tyler Cogswell.

Andy Harris will begin play against Edina’s Jon Yang. If he advances, he’ll face Wayzata’s Dustin Britton in the second round.

On the doubles side, Hopkins’ Michael Fields and Manfred Barrios hold the No. 2 seed and will receive a bye in the first round. They’ll face Richfield’s Ben Dimond and Shawn Tandon or Robbinsdale Armstrong’s Nathan Virnig and Matthew Speier in the second round.

Andrew Rust and Brandon Rabinowitz will take on Minneapolis Henry’s Marco Ocampo and Mason Coullard.
