Hopkins Softball Tops Shakopee In The State Quarters

The Royals will face Hastings at 3 p.m. in the Class AAA semifinals

The Hopkins softball team opened up the Class AAA tournament with a 13-3 win over Shakopee in the state quarterfinals Thursday in Mankato.

The win sends the Royals to the semifinals, where they will face Hastings at Caswell Park. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. today.

The Royals won in six innings thanks to seven different players producing a combined 16 hits in the contest.

Hopkins scored seven runs in the third inning to turn a 1-0 deficit into a 7-1 advantage. The Royals never looked back.

Hayley Nybo went 3-for-3 with three runs and four RBIs. Allison Schaefer finished 3-for-4 with two RBIs, and Maddy Bauer went 3-for-4 with three RBIs.

Morgan Nybo pitched all six innings against Shakopee (20-3) and allowed three runs on six hits.

Hopkins (23-3) will now face a Hastings squad that finished the regular season as the fourth-ranked team in Class AAA. The Royals, who finished seventh in the rankings, is 11-1 in their last 12 games dating back to a 6-1 loss to Shakopee on May 6.
