Hopkins Soccer Star Gets Ready to Become a Yellow Jacket

The University of Wisconsin-Superior soccer team is getting ready to welcome Hopkins High School grad Lily Marcelius.

Marcelius—a Minnetonka resident who signed with the school on National Signing Day—is included on a list of the Yellow Jackets’ recruits. 

"Lily fit right in with the team and we are excited to welcome her,” head coach Melissa Hanson said. “She is a creative and smart player, one who continues to improve and I am looking forward to seeing her play at the college level. Lily's hard work, creativity and commitment are going to take her a long way."

Marcelius was captain at Hopkins during her senior year. She was also captain of the Maple Brook Soccer Club U-16 C1 team in 2010, captain of the Hopkins High School junior varsity team in 2011 and winner of the Hopkins Junior Varsity Coaches Award.

In addition, she was the grand prize winner at the Coca Cola Live Positively National Competition in 2010. She won a free trip to South Africa to attend an international soccer camp and see a World Cup game.

"I chose UW-Superior because of the beautiful campus, wonderful professors and the amazing women's soccer coach who went above and beyond during my campus visit,” the university quoted Marcelius. “All of the girls on the team were welcoming and nice. I can't wait to play and become a part of their family."
