Hopkins' Smith-Sharp Earns All-State

The Royals' diver, making her first state appearance, placed sixth in a competitive diving pool on Saturday

The long road to the state meet was well worth it for senior diver Jasmine Smith-Sharp.

Smith-Sharp, making her first appearance at the Class AA state meet this weekend, made the most of her opportunity. She finished sixth with 366.10 points, earned All-State honors and proved she belongs among the top divers in the state.

“It feels awesome,” she said. “It’s finally a dream come true.”

Smith-Sharp was one of two Royals competitors to make it to Saturday’s Class AA state swimming and diving championships. Rae Bullinger competed in two swimming events, placing fourth in the 100 breaststroke at 1:05.04 and 13th in the 200 IM at 2:10.39.

Fellow diver Abby Writtenour did not advance past Thursday’s semifinals. She finished 17th overall.

For Smith-Sharp, who spent five years in the Royals program, the experience was overwhelming.
