Hopkins Heads to the State Girls Basketball Championship

The Royals defeated Eastview 55-31 in Thursday's semifinal game.

The Royals girls basketball team is headed to the state championship to defend its title.

knocked off in Thursday's semifinal match with a dominant 55-31 performance at the Target Center.

The No. 1-seeded Royals were up 33-13 at halftime and maintained their lead throughout the game. They led by a game-high 33 points with 12 minutes left in the second half, and they shot 41 percent compared to Eastview's 26 percent.

Hopkins' Sydney Coffey put up 15 points against Eastview, while her sister, Nia Coffey, had 10. Taylor Anderson also had 10 points for the Royals.

Twenty-four of Hopkins' points came from three-points shots.

Eastview's Madison Guebert led the Lightning in scoring, with seven points.

Hopkins will now defend its state title against Osseo in the state final at 8 p.m. Saturday at the Target Center.

Eastview, which was seeded No. 4 in the Class AAAA state tournament, will play Edina for third place at 4 p.m. Saturday at Concordia College.
