Hopkins' Haecherl To Compete Saturday At State Wrestling
They Royals saw five of their six individual state wrestlers eliminated Friday, but Haecherl remains alive in the wrestleback bracket
The Hopkins wrestling team will send one of its six individual wrestlers to Saturday’s Class AAA state wrestling event.
Hopkins opened up Friday’s state meet with six individuals competing at the Xcel Energy Center, but five of those wrestlers were eliminated. Only senior Austin Haecherl remains alive in the 140-pound bracket.
Haecherl lost his opening round match to Irondale’s Derek Weinmann by fall, but then won his opening wrestleback match against Albert Lea’s Caleb Kolodge by injury default.

His teammates were all eliminated Friday. Jacob Price (103 pounds) and Kevin Russell (215) lost their lone two matches, Henry Wolfbauer (125) and Michael De Jolsvay (130) lost their opening match and were eliminated when their opponent lost in the championship quarterfinals and Romar Daniel won his first match at 152 pounds before losing two straight matches.
Haecherl will compete at 10 a.m. Saturday in the consolation quarterfinals against Cambridge-Isanti’s Cody Skog.
