The Hopkins football team lost at home on Friday against Blaine, falling to the Bengals 26-20 in overtime.
The Royals took a 7-0 lead midway through the second quarter thanks to an 81-yard drive capped off by a 20-yard touchdown reception by ShaDonte’ McMorris.
Blaine came back on the ensuing drive with a touchdown score of its own, but a missed extra point ensure the Royals (1-1) would enter halftime with a 7-6 lead.

The Bengals took the lead 12-7 with a touchdown in the third quarter, but Hopkins out-scored the Bengals 13-8 in the fourth to knot the score at 20-20 heading into overtime.
The Royals, which beat Apple Valley 47-9 to open the season, will face Irondale at home next week. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Hopkins’ first Lake Conference game will also be its first road game of the season, when the Royals head to Eden prairie on Sept. 23.
