(GALLERY) Hopkins' Erickson, Top Doubles Team Still Alive At Sections
Erickson didn't drop a set at Tuesday's Section 6AA tournament and advanced to the semifinals
Hopkins senior Ryan Erickson rolled into the Section 6AA boys tennis semifinals Tuesday, not losing a single set en route to a 2-0 day at the University of Minnesota Baseline Tennis Center.
Erickson, the top-seed in the tournament, opened up with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Robbinsdale Armstrong’s Nathaniel Kurtzweg. He then defeated Holy Angels’ Lucas Ciabattoni 6-0, 6-0 to set up a date with fourth-seeded Scott Vezzosi of Wayzata.
Day 2 of the section tournament begins at 8 a.m. Wednesday at the U of M. The section champions and true second individuals and doubles teams advance to the Class AA state tournament on June 9-10.

Hopkins’ top doubles team also remains alive heading into Wednesday. Michael Fields and Manfred Barrios defeated Robbinsdale Armstrong’s Nathan Virnig and Matthew Speier 6-1, 6-1, then defeated Wayzata’s Michael Anderson and Ketan Kulkarni 6-0, 6-4. They’ll face Minneapolis South’s third-seeded team—Ellifson and Beck—at 8 a.m.
Hopkins’ Andrew Rust and Brandon Rabinowitz went 1-1 on Tuesday in doubles, while Andy Harris lost to Wayzata’s Dustin Britton in the second round, finishing with a 1-1 record.
