Hopkins’ Brown Takes Third in Maple Grove Triathlon

Robert Brown was one of more than 1,000 athletes who competed Saturday.

 

Hopkins resident Robert Brown took third place in the sprint portion of the third-annual Maple Grove Triathlon.

Saturday’s race brought out more than a 1,000 athletes to Park in Maple Grove.

Triathletes could choose to either run in the Dare to Sprint—comprised of a .3 mile swim, 14 mile bike ride and three mile run—or the longer The Olympic Dare course of .9 miles, 26 mile bike ride and 6.2 mile run.

The top finisher in the Dare to Sprint was Trevor Bunkers (1:01:43) of Sioux Falls, SD, followed by David Phillips of Maple Grove and Hopkins’ Brown, who finished with a time of 1:03:36.

In addition to Brown, the following Hopkins residents also competed:

  • Charlie Riley (78th overall, 1:17:58)
  • Amanda Spaeth (247th overall, 1:27:00)

The top finisher in The Olympic Dare was Kris Spoth (2:03:07) of Ames, IA, followed by Patrick Parish of Bloomington and Andrew Turner of Sioux Falls, SD. 

No one from Hopkins competed in the Olympic race.
