HHS Trap Club Competes at State Shoot, 2 Students Named ‘Top Gun’

Hopkins competed against 45 schools June 9-10 at the Alexandria Shooting Park.

The Trap Club competed with 45 schools at the State High School Clay Target League State Shoot and finished strong. A total of 32 Hopkins students competed in three classifications – varsity squad, junior varsity squad and novice squad. Two students were named the overall Top Gun – ninth-grader Tom Koppe for the varsity squad and eighth-grader Dash Thomas for the junior varsity squad.

Varsity squad
The Hopkins varsity squad placed ninth out of 45 schools with a total team score of 457/500 targets. 
The top five squad members for Hopkins were:

  1. Tom Koppe – 95/100
  2. Austin Boe  - 92/100
  3. Robert Giewitz – 92/100
  4. Nathan Hilliard – 90/100
  5. Jacob Johnson – 88/100

Ninth-grader Tom Koppe was overall Top Gun for Hopkins varsity squad with a 95/100. Koppe also shot his first perfect score at the shoot 25/25.


Junior varsity squad

The Hopkins junior varsity squad placed sixth out of 43 schools with a total team score of 420/500 targets.

Top five squad members for Hopkins were:

  1. Dash Thomas – 87/100
  2. Tom Sheely – 83/100
  3. Katie Taylor – 83/100
  4. James Williams – 83/100
  5. Erik Muus – 84/100

Eighth-grader Dash Thomas was overall Top Gun for the junior varsity squad with an 87/100. Thomas also shot his first perfect score 25/25 in the competition.

 

Novice squad

The Hopkins Novice squad placed 18 out of 39 schools with a team score of 173/375 targets.

Top five squad members for Hopkins were:

  1. Tony Baker – 57/75
  2. Tristan Benham – 42/75
  3. Willy Rohweder – 38/75
  4. Mary Johnstone – 19/75
  5. Dennis Plotkin  - 17/75

In addition, Hopkins senior Lisa Brouellette received the first ever MSHCTL College Scholarship of $1000. MSHSCTL seeks to reward students seeking a career in environmental sciences or conservation industries. Brouellette was selected from a large group of applicants.
