Hennepin County Awards Hopkins Rugby $1,300

The grant, part of the Youth Sports Program, will be used for goal post pads, rucking dummies and shields.

will receive $1,300 for goal post pads, rucking dummies and shields thanks to a Hennepin County Youth Sports equipment grant, according to a Hennepin County news release.

The grant was one of 24 grants worth $144,400 total that Hennepin County announced Tuesday. The Youth Sports equipment grants are intended for items such as field maintenance equipment or practice equipment, not personal items like helmets or pads.

The grants are awarded based on the following criteria:

  • The number of youth served by the organization,
  • Partnering with a youth sports organization and
  • Grants will be awarded to a mix of various sports activities and distributed to communities throughout the county

The Twins ballpark sales tax funds the Youth Sports Program—in addition to two other programs. Since 2009, more than $9 million has been distributed to 54 facility grants and 40 equipment grants.

  • Crystal, Crystal Community Center: $6,400 for basketball backboards, rims
  • Deephaven,  Lake Minnetonka Sailing School: $6,000 for boat motors
  • Eden Prairie, Miller Park complex: $9,500 for utility vehicle for maintenance of fastpitch, baseball and soccer fields
  • Loretto: $10,000 for mower for baseball, softball fields
  • Minneapolis Park & Recreation Board
    • Folwell Park: $9,000 for gym flooring
    • Kenny Park: $6,800 for gymnastics equipment
    • Longfellow Park: $9,900 for wrestling mat and gymnastics equipment
    • Sibley Park: $6,500 for soccer goals, basketball backboard and rim
    • Theodore Wirth Park, City of Lakes Nordic Ski Foundation: $10,000 for adaptive cross country equipment and adaptive mountain bikes
    • Waite Park: $1,800 for soccer goals
  • Minneapolis Public Schools, InnerCity Tennis: $4,600 for backboards, windscreen, nets
  • Orono, Crystal Bay Park: $10,000 for playground equipment
  • Robbinsdale
    • Cooper Armstrong Girls Fastpitch Association: $1,300 for pitching screens and a pitching machine
    • Sanborn North Little League Field: $10,000 for field improvements and field equipment for Robbinsdale Youth Baseball Association
    • Armstrom/Cooper Youth Football Association: $4,300 for dummies and blocking pads
  • Rockford Area Schools: $2,100 for soccer goals, adjustable basketball hoops
  • Rogers
    • Rogers Area Youth Baseball Association: $2,000 for baseball bases
    • Rogers Lacrosse: $1,800 for lacrosse goals
    • American Youth Soccer Organization Region 1512: $4,300 for soccer goals and backstop fencing
  • St. Louis Park School District: $8,100 for baseball pitching mounds, screens, platform, bases
  • St. Louis Park, St. Louis Park Football Association: $5,300 for water transportation systems, dummies and shields
  • Three Rivers Park District
    • Bush Lake Ski Jumps: $10,000 for safety fencing and steps for small hills
    • Twin Cities Youth Rowing Club: $3,400 for oars
