(GALLERY) Hopkins Girls Track And Field Team Wins State True Team Title

Royals run through the rain to take Class AAA championship on Friday evening.

The Hopkins girls track and field team claimed the state Class AAA True Team championship on a soggy Friday night at Stillwater High School, amassing 877 points to eke out second-place Mounds View by 2.5 points.

The "True Team" concept assigns a point value to every competitor in each event, thereby rewarding a deeper team rather than a squad with a handful of elite athletes.

While the Royals did exhibit a deep squad, Hopkins runners also won their share of events.
