Where Are They Now? Checking In With Former Hopkins Stars

Hana Potter, Mike Fink, Kara Elofson and Archie Skalbeck continue to shine in college.

teams are shining this winter, but several former Royals standouts are proving that success does not end in high school.

Hopkins Patch regularly checks up on ex-Hopkins stars to see how they're faring. If you have a former player you want to know about, e-mail cmonter@aol.com or james.warden@patch.com.

Kara Elofson (basketball): The 5-foot-10 junior forward is averaging 5.9 points and 6.4 rebounds per game for Binghamton University. She leads the team in field goal percentage, making 51.5 percent of her shots. The Bearcats are 8-10 and meet University of Maryland, Baltimore County on Thursday.

Mike Fink (hockey): The sophomore forward at Bowling Green has two goals and three assists for the Falcons this season. He spent three seasons in the USHL with the Des Moines Buccaneers and Waterloo Black Hawks. Fink has six goals in his college career. The Falcons, which are 6-13-5, travel to Alaska this weekend.

Hana Potter (basketball): The 6-foot-2 sophomore forward/center from Washington State is averaging 3.4 points and 1.5 rebounds per game. She has helped lead the Cougars to a 9-8 start. They face Stanford on the road Thursday.

Archie Skalbeck (hockey): The sophomore center for Colorado College has one goal and two assists this season for the Tigers. He had nine goals and nine assists as a freshman. Skalbeck set a single-season record at Hopkins High School with 32 goals and 61 points as a senior in 2009-10, when he served as team captain and was voted most valuable player. He led the Minnesota High School Elite League with 23 goals in fall of 2009. The Tigers, which are 13-8-1, face the University of Minnesota on the road this weekend.
