Search Names HHS Associate Principal As Junior High Principal

Patty Johnson will start work at North Junior High July 1.

Hopkins Public Schools has chosen Associate Principal Patty Johnson for the principal position at , the school district announced Monday afternoon.

Johnson replaces Pat Schmidt, who’s been North Junior High’s principal for 11 years and will retire at the end of this school year. Johnson will start her work as principal July 1, according to a district news release.

The school board will take action on the recommendation at its June 9 workshop.

Johnson could not immediately be reached for comment.

Johnson has been associate principal at the high school for the past three years. According to the district news release, her accomplishments include a new advisory program, student climate procedures and the registration process.

She started her education career as an English/Language Arts teacher at Park Center Senior High in Brooklyn Park.

She progressed into administration at Park Center during her last two years with that district, before moving to Fridley High School to work for a year as a dean of students. She was then an assistant principal at St. Michael-Albertville High School for two years until joining Hopkins High School in the fall of 2008.

Johnson received a bachelor's degree from St. Mary's College of Notre Dame. She received a master's degree from St. Mary's University of Minnesota and a principal's license from the University of Minnesota.
