Hopkins Girls Basketball Overwhelms Lakeville North

(UPDATED 4:28 p.m. March 14) Hopkins ran over Lakeville North on its way to a 51-29 victory in Wednesday’s State Girls Basketball Tournament quarterfinal match.

Junior Nia Coffey lit up the court on both offense and defense—scoring 18 points, grabbing nine rebounds and blocking seven shots, all team highs for the game.

The No.1-seeded Royals jumped out to a 7-0 lead early, but Lakeville North kept it tight through the first part of the game.

The teams left the court at the half with the scoreboards showing 17-12 Hopkins, thanks to a late jumper from Royals freshman TT Starks. Lakeville North then went on a 5-0 run to tie the game.

But Hopkins responded with an 11-0 streak the Panthers could never surmount.

Hopkins’ next match up of the tournament comes at 6 p.m. Thursday, when they’ll take on No. 4 seed Eastview High School at the Target Center. Eastview defeated St. Michael-Albertville 55-41 in its quarterfinal game.
