AUDIO: Hopkins School Board Remembers Sandy Hook

On Thursday, the Eisenhower Community Center’s boardroom was unusually full of people waiting to see how the School Board would vote on a request from some Edina property owners to leave the school district.

Before that vote took place, though, the board had some other business to take care of: remembering those affected by last week’s school shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary.

“Our thoughts are with all the devastated families whose lives were touched by the intersection of gun violence and mental illness on that day,” School Board Chairwoman Susan Wootten said. “In this stark event, we are reminded of the precious and the fleeting nature of the days that we have with the ones we love—and of the need to live them to the fullest.”

After reassuring families that the district’s safety standards are of the highest caliber, the board and those in the room took a moment of silence to remember those who lost their lives in the Newtown, CT, school shooting.
