Editor’s Note: The following announcement comes from Hopkins Public Schools.
Maritza Roberto, a physics teacher at Hopkins High School and a physical science teacher at North Junior High, was recognized by the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Minnesota as one of the Hispanic community’s “20 on the Rise,” an award given to those who are rising, leading, and succeeding in Minnesota’s Hispanic community.
Roberto was presented the award on Nov. 15 at the Millenium Hotel in Minneapolis. She was the only educator to receive the recognition. Other recipients of the award included leaders in business and government from Target, Ameriprise, Medtronic, Wells Fargo, the U.S. Department of Justice, and the Ramsey County Attorney’s Office.
In addition to teaching at Hopkins, Maritza is actively involved in science outreach programs throughout the Twin Cities, and is a member of the University of Minnesota’s Physics Force and PACES (Parents and Children Experiencing Science).
