Blake School Announces New Head

Anne E. Stavney is the assistant head of school and middle school director at Lakeside School, an independent day school in Seattle.

has chosen an administrator from an independent Seattle day school to be its next head of school, Elizabeth Winton, chairwoman of the school’s board of trustees, announced in a news release Thursday.

Anne E. Stavney will step into the job after current Head of School John Gulla steps down in June 2012 following 14 years in the position.

Stavney is the assistant head of school and middle school director at Lakeside School. She has more than 24 years of teaching and administrative experience. In those jobs, she has overseen a wide variety of programs—including Lakeside’s Office of Admissions and Financial Aid, its Global Service Learning Program and the Lakeside Educational Enrichment Program.

“Her work reveals a commitment to academic excellence and a track record of positive results,” Winton wrote in the announcement. “Her outstanding skills will serve Blake well as we continue to build on our strengths, working together to educate the next generation of Blake students."

Stavney will visit the Blake campuses several times throughout the remaining school year and relocate to Minneapolis in the summer with her husband, Dan Gunter, and 3-year-old daughter, Grace.
