Obama Campaign RV Stops in Hopkins

The stop was part of the campaign's 'Heartland Tour 2012.'

A Barack Obama campaign RV rolled through Hopkins on Sunday as part of “Heartland Tour 2012.”

The Minnesota portion of the tour kicked off Sunday at the Obama for America Field Office in St. Paul with U.S. Rep. Betty McCollum, state Rep. Rick Hansen (DFL-39A) and other Obama supporters.

The Hopkins stop was one of more than 20 the RV will make on its tour through Minnesota, said Kristin Sosanie, a spokeswoman for the campaign. Stops include St. Paul, Rochester, Albert Lea, Mankato, Willmar, Morris, Alexandria, Moorhead, Bemidji, Grand Rapids, Virginia, Duluth and St. Cloud.

In Hopkins, supporters looked over the RV and then made phone calls to garner support for the campaign.

Sosanie said the tour will emphasize the president’s efforts to move the middle class forward—pointing out what she called a clear choice between Obama’s visions and the budget promoted by Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan, GOP challenger Mitt Romney’s .

“There’s so much excitement,” Sosanie said. “It comes out when people see the RV.”

Along the way, the campaign will meet with state legislators, farmers, business owners and others.

Minnetonka resident Larry Norgren was one of those who stopped by to see the RV. He said he volunteers as much as possible for the campaign and hopes the RV will answer people’s questions and persuade undecided voters.

After the Minnesota portion of the tour concludes Friday, it will then move on to Wisconsin, Iowa and Ohio.
