Let Planners Know What You Think of Southwest LRT Plans

An open house to collect feedback on station locations takes place Tuesday.

Residents can share their thoughts on Hopkins Southwest Light Rail Transit station locations at an open house next week.

Project designers and engineers will be seeking feedback on proposed station sites in Hopkins and Minnetonka from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Hopkins Center for the Arts.

The goal is to find out which options under consideration “would enhance connections to existing neighborhoods and promote future development opportunities,” according to the city.

Key issues to be determined are:

  • Where station platforms will be built,
  • The roadway, pedestrian, bike and bus connections to the stations and
  • The locations of park-and-rides.

Hopkins is set to have three stations: Blake Station near Blake Road and Excelsior Boulevard, Downtown Station near Eighth Avenue and Excelsior and Shady Oak Station near where 17th Avenue would cross the regional trail south of Excelsior if it extended that far.
