Hopkins Talks To Other Cities About Engaging Residents

Mike Mornson discussed the Citizens Academy and Engaging Raspberry Renters program at the 2012 League of Minnesota Cities Conference.

Last week, about 400 elected and appointed city officials gathered in Duluth for the 2012 League of Minnesota Cities Conference and Marketplace.

This year, Hopkins City Manager Mike Mornson was among the conference presenters. He told other officials about ways has gotten residents interested in city government and attracted people to serve on commissions and the City Council—focusing on and also noting the program.

The Citizens Academy, alone, has had 225 participants—with four becoming council members, 17 becoming board and commission members and 11 joining the .

The presentation was well received, and several officials who attended said they planned to start one in their own community.
